AS Autoprogettazione: Chairs For Children
Designs for the three chairs from Autoprogettazione by Enzo Mari have been scaled down to suit children of ages 2-4 and amended to use readily available Australian DAR timber sections. The designs aim to create versions of the chairs that are proportionally as close as possible to the objects originally presented by Enzo Mari in "Proposta per un'autoprogettazione".
The Sedia P is likely the most iconic design from the Autoprogettazione series. An instantly recognisable boxy silhouette made from two contrasting timber sections, a slender element for the legs and a wider board for the seat and backrest.
Along with being the most iconic, the Sedia P is also the most straightforward object to assemble from the original series, making it a great place to start for beginners.
We have presented two versions of the chair, one for a 2-year old and another for a 4-year old.
The Sedia Q is a complex puzzle of a chair, made from a single profile with few right angles and some complex interactions between the pieces.
The Q takes some patience to understand, and often some trial and error to assemble, but it is a personal favourite of the studio and a rewarding chair to build.
We have presented two versions of the chair, one for a 2-year old and another for a 4-year old.
The Sedia R is a distinct and characterful chair constructed with wide boards, most prominently feauturing a backrest composed of vertical slats cantilevering from the base and seat levels.
Involving some of the more interesting and interlocking connections between timbers, the Sedia R is a lesson in complex interactions, spacing and sequencing.
We have presented one version of the chair for a 3-year old.
